If travelling from the east, from the direction of
Inverness and Achnasheen, Strathcarron is the first point where, in a
sense, you reach the west coast of the Scottish Highlands. Strathcarron
lies right at the head of Loch Carron, a long tidal inlet of the sea.
For those arriving at Strathcarron by rail, the view
to the right is one of the first to be seen after alighting from the
train and crossing the footbridge over the track.

The view to the left shows part of Lochcarron village as seen from
the south side of Loch Carron, just a short distance from Strathcarron, with the snow-capped Applecross mountains in the background.
Lochcarron is some 3 miles from Strathcarron by road,
somewhat less as the crow flies.
This photo was taken on a truly spectacular February
morning when it was, quite literally, warm enough for shirt sleeves!
